HERE is the trailer for next week's episode
2-15 'Gone With the Will'

Discuss...

2-14 'In the Realm of the Basses'

Sorry for the delay in posting, I'm sure you've all seen it by now but Gossip Girl has returned with a vengance after the longest month ever, or so it seemed. We get a good refresher of what happened over the last episode, Dan and Serena, Lily and Rufus reuniting then re-un-uniting...Of course the pivotal moment where Blair finally shares her feelings only to be denied.
I don't know what, if any, awards go to TV actors but whatever they are, Leighton Meester (Blair) is a shoe-in, as is Ed Westwick (Chuck).IS there anything else that could make one look so forward to a Monday? I think not.By the way, the head line on the GG post is too rich...All Chucked up?

Now on with it...The epi starts by showing Serena (alone) tangoing in Buenos Aires (I hope I remember to spell check that once I get this online). Skip to Eric and Jenny walking to school since Jenny has agreed to return to Constance this semester. Turns out she got a taste of what it was like to be 15 again and realized it isn't so bad. Lucky her to realize it now instead of looking back in 10 years.
Blair is keeping herself busy focusing on her future. She's working on getting into the Colony Club, a group of high society women from the UES which seems very fitting.Eric and Jenny discuss the latest on Chuck. Eric informs Little J that 'Uncle' Jack has come to town from Australia and taken charge of the situation. He's gone off to look for Chuck, and as we will soon discover, he seems like the ideal candidate to know which rocks to check under. And the next scene shows that the rock happens to be an Asian den of inequity, super.
Now I know there are more characters then Blair and Chuck but being truly obsessed I do forget so bear with me if I tend to skim over some of the other story lines going on. Rufus has come home early from Boston, surprising Dan on the first day back to school. He was away looking for a sculptor, or painter, he doesn't know if it was a man or woman...Rufus wants to walk Dan to school, maybe he was going to tell him about the 'love child', but probably not. Just feeling nostalgic about the child he never knew about. It's kind of sad really, but while it wasn't handled very well by Cece or Lily, I'm not all that thrilled with Rufus' reaction or resulting treatment of Lily. Adoption can be a wonderful gift to a child or adoptive parents. Hopefully they put a better spin on this soon.

Blair is talking to Darota about the Colony Club, old, prestigious, some other such nonsense. She is pleased to be taking the first step toward building the life she wants, one without...Mr Chuck? Darota asks to Blair's shushes, very cute scene as Darota copies Blair's shush in complete understanding. It's a new year, time to focus on an unencumbered future. Of course, as the text message comes in that Jack bASS has found Chuck and is on the way to the apartment, it turns out that to deny one's past is to deny one's self.
I LOVE this character! And away they go, they'll discuss the party for the Colony Club ladies tomorrow evening, on the way to Chuck's.
Cut to Eric and Jenny, I do love these two and I did say I wanted more storyline with them in it, but that was before I went for a month in Chuck and Blair withdrawal, couldn't this episode have been just those 2?
Anyways, Eric wonders if Jenny is at all nervous about returning to school and to face the mean girls. Jenny lists off her accomplishments over the last four months, Elinor Waldorf, hijacked a society gala, had her entire collection burnt to a crisp by a crazy model and been homeless. High school, she can handle, but yes, she is a little nervous.
Nelly Yuki runs up to Jenny, quite pleased that she's returned. In case you wonder who the hell Nelly Yuki is, she is the top student who Blair sabotaged to ensure that she got the highest SAT marks. I'm pretty sure that was a few episodes ago so I don't know why this highly intelligent person is playing handmaiden to Penelope (the current queen with Blair otherwise engaged). There's a slight interaction with the mean girls, but the wrath is towards Nelly, not Jenny. Good, lets get on with it!

Ok, so Blair and Darota arrive just as the limo pulls up to the curb. Uncle Jack seems very pleased to see Blair has come to greet them, not them, she corrects him; but Chuck. Though we've never seen or heard of Uncle Jack, it appears that he and Blair have met, and she doesn't seem to be as pleased to see him as he is to see her. She simply wants to know if he found Chuck. Yes, he did, in Bangkok, in a Bass hotel, which sounds like it is also the den of inequity...she doesn't care for the chit chat, she wants to see the love of her life in one piece. Well, she sees him but he is clearly broken beyond recognition as he is practically carried into the lobby.
We see her vulnerable and Darota is downright horrified, but Blair quickly regains composure and control and demands to know why Darota is following her, then tells her to go home and get ready for her party.
Back to Rufus and Dan, they're at the school, Rufus wants to meet up with Dan tonight, Rufus gets a phone call from the latest adoption agency saying sorry no luck.
Dan walks inside the school, Serena is waiting for him. She broke up with Aaron 3 hours into a 15 hour flight from New York. They establish their parents will never be together (they don't know why) and that now that the dust has settled they still love each other, etc etc, back together, nice kiss and we're out.
Aw, S and B reunite in the halls. Serena asks whether Jack found Chuck, Blair says yes, what was left of him. She was surprised they made it through customs though, Chuck's body odour could apparently have given a contact high to half of Manhattan. The writers of this show are so fabulous. Blair confesses to Serena that she told Chuck she loved him. Serena's reaction was much like Cyrus' in the last episode, utter joy at this news. But Blair says she wishes she could go back and strangle herself as the words came out.
Serena tries to comfort Blair, that not only is she sure Chuck will say it back, but he probably thought about her the whole time he was gone. Blair doesn't think so unless she was a Thai hooker named Bo.
There's something else, but unfortunately Serena's news (Dan) interrupts so we don't know what. Blair lets Serena know a postcard would have been fine (I concur) and that she's going to go vomit now. Hopefully THAT was the something else!

Skip to Lily and Rufus at the gallery. Rufus wants to know where his child is. Lily says she gave 'him' up, as well as the right to go looking for him. They argue about who's rights should prevail, Rufus' right to find out about his son, or the son's right to live his life...good question. Rufus pats himself on the back for giving up his rock star dreams to parent Dan and Jenny, seems to take a dig at little Lily's parenting skills, she refuses to give any info and he storms off saying he'll find him alone.
Jenny and Eric are watching the mean girls mistreat Nelly at Pinkberry (the new temporary hangout while the Met steps continue to be under construction. Penelope has her wipe a scuff off her shoe, and that's all Jenny can take before she intervenes. It looks like things will look up until Penelope drops some ice cream on her own shoe and asks Nelly to help her, as a friend. Jenny won't stand for it and tells Nelly not to do it. Nelly thanks her, they get up and walk away. The red-headed mean girl wants to know if Little J knows what she's doing.
Jenny informs her she's not little J anymore.

Finally...Blair finds Chuck lighting a joint (dressed horribly) in the courtyard at school and asks if he wants to get kicked out, in his voice, (sultry is a words that comes to mind to describe it) his response is 'Hello Lover, long time no see'. Blair suggests he ought not to be at school but passed out, or hooked up to an IV perhaps (I love this writing). Chuck, clearly in a daze, says he didn't want to miss the first day, which he already has. Blair wonders if maybe Chuck had something he wanted to tell her, he doesn't seem to know what it could be, he gazes off into space like a deer caught in headlights, she grabs his face and it is quite clear that she was onto something to suggest he ought to be elsewhere, well, it is also clear that he IS elsewhere. She looks puzzled and asks who he is. Could somebody get these two a TV award please?
Cue Headmistress Queller's arrival.
Next! An angry Rufus comes in to catch Dan and Serena home from school early, making out and all un-tucked. He is clearly quite angry and without so much as a hello asks of they're back together, he says that Serena needs to go home, he doesn't like them being there when he's not. Fair enough, but fine time to start that rule. I know he's in turmoil but he was plain rude and I didn't like it. He's losing big points in the characters I can stand roster.
Dan is not too pleased, don't blame him. Dan walks out to get Serena a cab and Rufus tells Dan, this is a mistake.
Good, that was short and sweet. Back to the school, and Chuck's disciplinary hearing. Thank goodness that Blair is there to help him since he is still not quite present. Luckily she appears to be in complete control and very capable of taking care of business. Ugh, Uncle Jack arrives. Chuck seems surprised and actually pleased to see him (remember though, he's high), he also apparently doesn't remember their rickshaw ride, or the 15 hour flight back to New York, or he may remember it but didn't realize it was Jack.
Blair does not want Jack there and does not seem shy to let him know, and that she has it covered. He figured since he's the only family Chuck has he should be there though I don't recall seeing him at the funeral.
HM Queller tells Uncle Jack that she found Charles smoking marijuana on school property, Chuck kindly corrects her that it was actually hash, he find it gives a softer high. Jack seems to nod, not quite in approval, but not exactly disapproval either. He claims the evidence seems questionable, right, that was lame, Blair calls him on it. She gives good speech, "Charles has been through an ordeal and is clearly out of his right mind and can not be held responsible for his actions, it's temporary insanity and if no court of law could find him guilty of a crime, how can we?" How can we??? HMQ agrees that it has been a lot and asks if Chuck can promise that nothing like this will happen again. He stands up, says "For you HM; anything', and pulls out another joint. He doesn't light it but he walks out telling them it's been a pleasure, lingering look at Blair, yum. He leaves, Blair drops her face to her hands and Jack asks what kind of suspension we're looking at.

Next morning in the Humphrey home, Dan isn't talking to Rufus, tells Jenny it's because Rufus doesn't want Dan dating Serena, Jenny didn't even know they were together, she's out of the loop, something about Lily, she's still confused, some more talk.
I'm still trying to figure out what havoc Jack will be bringing. He doesn't seem to have to obvious schemer thing going on in his eyes that Chuck and Blair can, and Bart did for that matter. But he's a Bass so it stands to reason he's here to eff things up a bit. And Blair has been all love so she probably needs a little something to get the gloves back on, or the nails to come out, or whichever mixed metaphor worked for Serena a few episodes back. Anyways, Dan leaves for school, Jenny does too.

Back at school there's a hearing to determine whether Nelly should be free to leave the mean girls clutches, Blair presides, Jenny argues Nelly's case. Blair appears bored, (duh), and Penelope's rebuttal is that newer members are subjected to more, attention (read hazing?). Hazel seems to recall what she went through, Blair also remembers fondly since she made her do them after all. But more importantly, Penelope says, once people find out you can quit, the girls at the steps will be finished. Sound like the mafia, come to think of it I think there was some Godfather theme playing during the Pinkberry scene earlier. Jenny asks Blair for her decision. Blair informs all parties, that this evening she will be hosting the selection committee of the Colony Club, Isabel(?) is surprised that they would accept a high school girl, Blair says she was surprised too, well actually, she wasn't entirely, but regardless, she's had enough of this high school nonsense, Nelly, no Nelly, who cares? She has enough going on already! Cue the Italian background music as the mean girls realize that Blair is leaving them behind; it's the end of an era. Penelope lets Hazel and Isabel know that they are more then any one member, and that the only way Nelly is leaving is in a body bag. Hazel suggests that Penelope tone down the crazy, well put.

School hallway, (I thought these were 2 seperate schools, one all boys, one all girls?) Dan and Serena walking, talking, blah blah blah, pondering their parents, primarily Rufus', odd behaviour. Blair stops Serena and Dan exits stage left. B starts asking if Chuck came home last night, if S has seen him and tells her about the hash. S thinks it's no big deal, it is Chuck after all. Blair insists that this time it's different (Is her award here yet, the emotion is so raw and real!). Serena says that if he hasn't come home by tonight she'll help.
Blair calls Darota and asks if everything is ready for the colony ladies and she has somewhere to go first. Odd, S was off to class and B is leaving?

Ugh, back to the ice cream parlour. Let's make it snappy. Jenny, Eric and Nelly are sitting at the mean girl's table when they arrive. Nelly thinks she'll be sick, Jenny suggests she try not to do that. They refuse to leave, it's war Penelope calls Daddy and says that Jenny is bullying her.

Mmmm, I see where Blair had to go, Victrola! Memories. There's Chuck, as predicted, with two 'ladies', Chuck asks them to give he and Blair a moment (hard to believe we're only 22 minutes, 36 seconds in). Blair tells Chuck he should go home, Lily, Serena, Eric... he cuts her off and says that's not his home, or his family. Blair suggests the Palace, anything to get out of Victrola. He says it would be rude since he just posted to Gossip Girl that he's throwing a party tonight. He suggests Blair may grace them with a dance, she's not amused. She asks him to stop, it's not him, it doesn't help. Chuck says she's wrong, Bart may have been a bastard, but he saw Chuck for who he really was, Chuck's just living up to his potential.
He tells Blair it's time to let go of her fantasies, she says she doesn't believe him. He tells her it's her business and then looks away, bored (or like some random pill just kicked in), he looks back to her and asks 'Is that it, or were you going to tell me you love me again?' she asks why he even came back. I ask why she didn't grab that bottle from in front of him and smack him upside the head with it? BASShole!!! His slightly regretful look after she walks away, is of little comfort to me. Forget him Blair, get home to your Colony ladies!
Dan and Serena go to the Humphrey apt to look for clues as to what is going on with Rufus. Blah blah, Blair texts Serena and away she goes, after she leaves Dan finds a paper and number for Boston. He calls and finds out it's an adoption agency.

Blair arrives home with short time to spare. She tells Darota she just needs 10 minutes and swoops up the stairs. She sits down at her vanity and looks like she's about to get ready, she crumbles, loses composure and looks like she may have an anxiety attack, then you just see the resolve come over her face and it's over. Is that damn award here yet???

Jenny is greeted leaving HMQ's office by Eric and Nelly, she tells them what happened and wonders what the big deal is. Nelly suspects that Penelope is afraid she'll tell people that she is sleeping with her dad's junior partner. Jackpot!

Dan goes to the gallery to confront Rufus about Boston, Rufus asks if Chuck Bass told Dan, who is rightfully appalled that Chuck might know something about their life that Dan does not. Rufus says he can't talk about it right now but Dan persists, Rufus won't budge and asks for one more day, there's a right way to talk about this. Dan says it's past that and leaves.

Serena gets to Blair, she is recovered and all ready for the ladies. She tells Serena it was a false alarm, everything is fine. She also tells her that Chuck is holed up at Victrola in some Jim Morrison downward spiral. She says it's sad in a way, but luckily not her concern. She thanks Serena for coming though. Serena insists that if Chuck is really in trouble then they need to help him. He has no brother's and sisters and they're all he has; Blair is all he has. Blair informs S that he doesn't want her help. Serena accuses Blair of abandoning Chuck for a bunch of society matrons. Blair points out this is her way to build a life. She is not abandoning Chuck, she is just saving her self. I can't say I blame her at this moment.

Big bash at Victrola, Dan approaches Chuck and asks for information on Rufus and Lily, Chuck, grateful for Dan squashing the arson story agrees to spill the beans even though he didn't plan to. He informs Dan that he wasn't the firstborn Humphrey. Chuck says there's only one person left to tell, S, but of course, (never mind Jenny and Eric) but that once Dan does, it's over between the two, sharing a sibling is a bit much, even for Chuck.
Blair is working hard to impress the ladies, they grill her after seeing Serena leaving the penthouse, after all, for better or for worse we are known by the company we keep. Blair says she's an old friend, a habit, and that doesn't approve of the way she lives her life. They go on to criticize Lily, Bart and finally Chuck, which naturally is the last straw. Blair tries to fake it for a moment but finally decides to hell with it. She won't sell her friends out for these bitches, and good on her. Darota looks absolutely beaming with pride as Blair walks away telling them Serena and Lily are wonderful, kind people, and that 'piece of work' Chuck Bass needs her. One asks Blair if she knows what she's doing, she says she thought she was leaving high school but she guesses you never do. You go girl!!!

Chuck is wandering around Victrola, watching the dancers. I really expected to see a flashback of Blair's dance but we don't. I'll assume though that that is exactly what Chuck was seeing in his mind's eye. Eric approaches him and welcomes him back, asking how Thailand was. Chuck says he honestly doesn't remember. He looks like he actually cares about Eric. Eric tells Chuck he should come home, Chuck says he thinks he'll take the view from above and that it was nice having Eric as his little brother.

Jenny texts Eric so he goes out to meet her. Penelope is outside too and Jenny informs the mean girls what she knows, about Penelope and her Dad's junior partner, how Hazel got drunk and hooked up with her cousin, twice, and Isabel, well, apparently Jenny doesn't even need to say it. This is a text waiting to go to GG so if they don't get their parents to back off Jenny, and start treating Nelly better, she hits send. An instant surrender and they declare Jenny queen, thinking that's what she wanted all along, turns out so did Nelly. When Jenny declines the crown Nelly runs after the mean girls, she just wanted to go to the Collegiate party. Eric goes to get his coat so they can go get hot chocolate.

Back to Lily and Rufus, Lily's scared the kids will hate them when Dan tells them. Lily and Rufus talk, blah blah blah. Rufus understands why she gave the baby up, but is upset that she didn't tell him. He doesn't hate her, as much as he wants to, and her kids won't either. Lily offers to tell him what he wants to know.

Serena and Dan bump into each other inside Victrola and Dan asks if they can go somewhere private to talk, Serena says yes.
Uncle Jack runs into Blair in Victrola, again he seems way more pleased to see her then she is to see him. She wonders if he isn't a little old to be there (being a bar in a country with a drinking age of 21, and that the lions share of guests are 17 and under, duh). He says that he heard his nephew was throwing the first big party of the year and he didn't want to miss it, and how Chuck does the Bass name proud. Clearly Jack is going to be a wonderful influence for Chuck.

Blair spots Eric and asks if he's seen Chuck. He says a while ago, but Chuck said something about wanting in the view form above. Jack figures he meant upstairs, Blair informs him that Chuck has a thing for rooftops. Jack hands Eric (that's 15 year old Eric) his drink, and tells him to enjoy.
Meanwhile, back on the roof. A VERY drunk Chuck is swigging from a bottle while walking, well, stumbling, along the edge of the rooftop singing a song. He drops the bottle and nearly falls himself. Blair and Jack arrive and Jack calls out. Chuck nearly falls (perhaps that was Jacks intent?) Blair calls out No and gives Jack shit for being so stupid. Jack tries to entice Chuck down to the party, no dice. Oh, your father wouldn't want this, obviously this is a distant uncle because he has no clue what to do to help here.
Thank heavens Blair does.
Chuck hollers out his trademark saying (I'm Chuck Bass) and then says no-one cares. But Blair does! And she tells him. She asks him, doesn't he understand, she'll always be here. She doesn't want him going anywhere. She couldn't bear it. So whatever he wants to do to himself, please don't do that to her. She reaches her hand up and after a few moments of staring at her, he reaches down and goes into her arms telling her he's sorry, of course it's ok, it's all ok.

Dan is about to tell Serena about their shared sibling when Rufus calls, he tells Dan they're going to look for the baby and to please let Lily be the one to tell Serena. Dan doesn't want to wait but Rufus has returned to decent and likable, explains to Dan that this isn't his secret to share, that it's between mother and daughter so Dan agrees.

Blair is seeing Chuck and Jack off for the evening. She tells Jack that Chuck should go to Lily's, Chuck gets into the limo, Jack shuts the door and turns to Blair. He tells her that Chuck will probably just take off from Lily's, that he has a better chance of keeping an eye on him. Blair lets him know in no uncertain terms that she does not trust him. Jack claims that all he wants is what's best for his nephew, and as for trusting him, does she really have a choice? Blair looks like she concedes that point then tells Jack, 'He can't know what happened, on New Years'. What the helllll?!?! He nods in agreeance and Blair looks like she's going to be sick. Jack doesn't appear look like he's got some great big secret on Blair so I am praying that there was no hanky panky between these two. Jack says goodnight to Blair, in an almost, apologetic tone and gets in the Limo.

Dan tells Serena that their parents are going away for a couple of days so Serena assumes that Dan was worried about what would happen to them, she reassures him that it's ok, everything will be fine. Rufus and Lily get into their limo with lots of meaningful stares as they prepare to depart.

I have never paid particular attention to the music of this show though I know there is at least one soundtrack and lots of people are obsessed, as Jack is telling Blair she has no choice but to trust him (and through D & S and R & L's scene, a song called 'White Lies' by a group called E.S.T is playing. It doesn't mention white lies in the part that plays (which is also fitting here) but, the music and the small bit of lyrics just fit so well.

HERE is the song on youtube.

I also got a Wii fit, which even lets me do a workout while watching TV channels, Bonus!

Open Chat

If you were a GG writer, and without going into the actual spoilers available on the web, what are some of your theories on where the writers will go over the rest of the second season?

Where would you like to see them go?
